FAQ
What’s the difference of slip rings and rotary unions?

Both slip rings and rotary unions are used to transfer media from a rotary part to a stationary part while rotating. But the media of slip rings is power, signal and data, rotary unions’ media is liquid and gas.

How about the warranty of AOOD electrical rotating products?

AOOD have one year warranty for all electrical rotating products except custom slip rings. If any unit doesn’t work well under normal work environment, AOOD will maintain or replace it for free.

How to select the right slip ring model for my application?

The number of circuits, current and voltage, rpm, size limit will determine which model of AOOD slip ring needed. Additionally, we will consider your actual application (vibration, continuous working time and type of signal) and make the exact solution for you.

Why should I select AOOD TECHNOLOGY LIMITED as our slip rings partner? What’s your advantage?

The aim of AOOD is to satisfy customers. From initial design, material selection, production, testing, package and last delivery. We always offer the best service and make sure our customers can get the best quality products in shortest time.

How will AOOD prevent slip ring from signal interference?

AOOD engineers will prevent signal interference from below aspects: a. Increase the distance of signal rings and other powers rings from internal of slip ring. b. Use special shielded wires to transfer signals. c. Add outside shield for signals rings.

What’s AOOD delivery time once an order is placed?

We have stock reasonable quantities for most standard slip rings, so delivery time is usually within one week. For new slip rings, we probably need 2-4 weeks.

How should I mount the slip ring with through bore?

Usually we mount it by installation shaft and set screw, we can add flange to match your installation if you need.

For dual-band 2-axis digital marine satellite antenna system, can you recommend some suitable slip ring solutions?

AOOD has offered many kinds of slip rings for antenna systems, including marine antenna systems and on the road antenna systems. Some of them are required to transfer high frequency signal and some of them need higher protection degree, for example IP68. We all have done it. Please contact AOOD for your detailed slip rings requirements.

With the increasing of new technology, more advanced slip rings are required to transfer special signals. Which signals can be transferred by AOOD slip rings?

With years’ R&D and cooperation experience, AOOD slip rings have been successfully transferred simulate video signal, digital video signal, high frequency, PLD control, RS422, RS485, Inter Bus, CanBus, Profibus, Device Net, Giga Ethernet and so on.

I’m looking for a slip ring to transfer 1080P and some other common signals channels in small structure. Can you offer something like it?

AOOD have developed HD slip rings for IP cameras and HD cameras which can transfer both HD signal and common signals in compact capsule slip ring frame.

Do you have something that can transfer 2000A or higher current?

Yes, we have. AOOD electrical rotating connectors are just used to transfer background-color: #f0f0f0;high current.

If slip ring need high protection degree, such as IP66. Will the torque be huge?

With advanced technology and special treatment, AOOD can make a slip ring not only IP66 but also pretty small torque. Even a big size slip ring, we enable it work smoothly with higher protection too.

For a ROV project, we need a couple of rotary joints which can transmit single mode fiber optic signal and power under deep sea. Can you offer something like that?

AOOD had successfully offered plenty of rotary joints for ROVs and other marine applications. For marine environment, we corporate fiber optic rotary joint into electrical slip ring, to transmit fiber optic signal, power, data and signal in one complete assembly. Additionally, we fully take into account of the use condition, the housing of slip ring will be made of stainless steel, pressure compensation and protection class IP68 will be adopted too.

Hi, our team is designing a robotic project, we need some robotic rotary joints to solve cable problems, let me know what you can do for it.

In robotic application, slip ring is known as robotic rotary joint or robot slip ring. It is used to transmit signal and power from base frame to robotic arm control unit. It has two parts: one stationary part is mounted on the robot arm, and one rotating part mounts to the robot wrist. With a robotic rotary joint, the robot can achieve endless 360 rotations without any cable problems. According to the specifications of robots, robotic rotary joints range widely. Usually a complete robot will need several robot slip rings and these slip rings probably are with different requirements. Till now, we have already offered compact capsule slip rings, through bore slip rings, pan cake slip rings, fiber optic rotary joints, electro-optic rotary joints and custom rotary solutions for robotics.

Your slip ring solution sounds good, but what tests will you do? How do you conduct?

For common slip ring assemblies, such as AOOD small size compact slip rings, we will test operating voltage and current, signal, torque, electrical noise, insulation resistance, dielectric strength, dimension, materials and appearance. For military standard or other special high requirement slip rings, such as high speed and those will be used in underwater vehicles, defense & military and heavy-duty machinery slip rings, we will conduct mechanical shock, temperature cycling, high temperature, low temperature, vibration, humidity, signal interference, high speed tests and so forth. These tests will be in accordance with US military standard or specified test conditions by customers.

What HD-SDI sliprings do you have? We need many more of them.

At the moment, we have 12way, 18way, 24way and 30way SDI slip rings. They are compact designed and easy to install. They ensure smooth signal transferring of high definition videos and can meet the requirements of TV and film applications.
